UPDATED SPRING/SUMMER 2008: You're always welcome to post a story or share your list of things to try here on the site. But if you're in the middle of an adventure or pursuing a particular goal right now and would like to chronicle the experience, we're curious to hear from new writers, illustrators and/or video-makers. We are on the lookout for a select few, but don't let that stop you from dropping us an email and expressing your interest in contributing.
In the past, we've been fortunate to have a number of fine bloggers writing here. They include Tim Thornton ('The Trials of Tim'), Gigi Burgdorf ('Conquer My Fear of Nudity'), Sven Petersen ('Start a Business'), Ingrid Weise ('Quit Smoking'), Isy Paulson ('Build a Camera in the Rain Forest'), Andrea ('Get Published'), Dave Angel ('Move to New Zealand') and David Lemon ("Make a Movie').
Here's what we're after:
We're looking for a number of you out there -- writers, experimenters, bloggers, travellers, artists, athletes, inventors and entrepreneurs -- to contribute to the 2DO Before I Die blog on a regular basis with a slot of your very own.
As bloggers, you would write or posts videos about the pursuit (or a group endeavor, if you're working with others), of a particular ambition or project of yours. Like a journal, it's in your own voice, commenting weekly on the highs, lows and left-turns of what it takes to get you where you want to go.
What the goal involves is up to you. Fight for a cause? Road trip across South America? Make a movie? Start a business? Get published? It doesn't have to be a success story -- it doesn't matter if you hit a glitch at some point, so long as you're happy to write about it and share it with the site. In terms of time, in general we're looking for contributors to participate weekly from 1-3 months, depending on the goal.
Why do it?:
If you've got a project that's long overdue, having a 2DO Blog of your own can be a good kickstart. Maybe you're an aspiring writer, anxious to test your journalistic skills, or a prospective director interested in keeping a video blog... Either way, the site can offer an ever-growing, international audience, a chance to promote yourself and your project and is often an opportunity to receive advice, contacts and encouragement along the way.
Interested? Know someone else who might be? Please include the following:
… What goal it is you want to chase (or are chasing)
… Why you want to do it
… When you hope to have it done (or a part of it done - it can be about a stage of a larger project)
... Send in a draft of your first two posts (about 250 words each - click here to see a great example...) - Gigi's first post.
...Please put '2DO Blogger' in your email subject line
As far as writing styles go, a healthy sense of humor goes a long way for us as does the ability to articulate the purpose and passion behind the project itself. Imagine talking to your friends in a bar, rather than addressing a roomful of strangers.
Hope you're up for participating -get in touch!...
Thanks,
Mike and Chris
